Detox with Apples

Health & Nutrition Tips Wednesday:

Just want to share my cleansing regimen every ones in a while to remove some toxins from my system and to give my digestive system some days of relaxation.

The truth is that, apple is my favorite fruit.  It's my survival food when my stomach is upset, or my digestive system is not functioning well, or if I am just lazy to cook or to chew solid food.  With the aid of my best friend "the blender" I often make a smoothie out of an apple or two.  If we have other fruits, I throw it all in with the apples and I drink it all the way down, no chewing needed.  The thing is, I only like apple when I puree them for my smoothie.  You won't see me slicing or chewing apples, unless otherwise, there is no blender or food processor available around. My husband on the other hand prefer munching on fruits.  I often times force feed him with my apple/fruits smoothies (evil grin)

Apples, these deliciously crunchy fruits, red or green,  are low in calories (approx 50 kcal for every 100 g. of fruit) but are packed with a great number of antioxidants and essential nutrients that is required for good health.  Apples are rich in dietary fibers, like pectin (a soluble fiber) and many others, that is not only good for the digestive system but also help in the prevention of colon cancer as well as help lower cholesterol and sugar levels.

So eat an apple a day to keep the doctor away.  Detox with apples periodically for a better health.  

Here's how I DETOX WITH APPLES

Day 1 - Preparation

1. Upon Rising in the morning  : take 1 tbsp of olive oil and drink lemon juice consisting of 2 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice + 250 ml of water (not hot nor cold)

2.  Breakfast or an hour after drinking the lemon juice, drink Apple smoothie (2 medium size apple blended with 300 ml of plain water) 

3.  Eat only non-oily vegetables and rice for lunch and supper.  No protein from animals, no processed foods, no fatty/oily and sugary foods.

You can eat as many apple as you like and make sure that your total intake of liquid/water is at least 2 L 

Day 2 to 4 - the three day detox (you can extend up to 5 days)

1. Upon Rising in the morning : take 1 tbsp of olive oil and drink lemon juice consisting of 2 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice + 250 ml of water (not hot nor cold)


2. Breakfast or an hour after drinking the lemon juice:  drink Apple smoothie (2 medium size apple blended with 300 to 500 ml of prune juice)

3. Lunch or 3 hours after having the first apple smoothie:  drink Apple smoothie (3 medium size apple blended with 500 ml of plain water)

4. Snack or 1 or 2 hours after having the last apple smoothie:  drink Apple smoothie (2 medium size apple blended with 300 ml of plain water) 

5. Snack 1 or 2 hours after having the last apple smoothie:  drink Apple smoothie (2 medium size apple blended with 300 ml of plain water)

6. Supper or 3 hours after having the last apple smoothie:  drink Apple smoothie (3 medium size apple blended with 500 ml of plain water)

7. After an hour of having supper -  drink 2 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice + 250 ml of water (not hot nor cold) 

You can eat as many apple as you like and make sure that your total intake of liquid/water is at least 2 L 

Day 5 - recovery

1. Upon Rising in the morning  : take 1 tbsp of olive oil and drink lemon juice consisting of 2 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice + 250 ml of water (not hot nor cold)

2. Breakfast or an hour after drinking the lemon juice:  drink Apple smoothie (2 medium size apple blended with 300 ml of plain water) 

3.  Eat only non-oily vegetables and rice for lunch and supper.  No protein from animals, no processed foods, no fatty/oily and sugary foods.

4.  Eat pro-biotic food (I had yogurt)

Day 6 to 7 

1. Upon Rising in the morning  : take 1 tbsp of olive oil and drink lemon juice consisting of 2 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice + 250 ml of water (not hot nor cold)

2. Breakfast or an hour after drinking the lemon juice, drink Apple smoothie (2 medium size apple blended with 300 ml of plain water)

3. Lunch and supper - eat veggies, rice, and fish or chicken.

4.  Eat pro-biotic food (I had yogurt)

Day 8 onwards - you can retain your breakfast rituals and eat your regular food for snack, lunch and supper
