Steamed Tilapia with Ginger

One of the easiest dish I could whip up is steamed fish.  I prefer baking over steaming but Mammy requested that I steam the tilapia instead of baking it.  For an apparent reason that we need to save electricity since our electric bill last month shoot up to more than Php 3,000.  She had been insinuating this to all of us specially when she demands that lights should be put out when nobody is in the room or switch off the tv or the electric fan when no one is using them.

Steaming is a healthy way of cooking dishes as most of the food's nutrients are retained and the meat, or fish, or even vegetables are a lot juicier  So here is my steamed tilapia which I cooked during our reunion which we sponsored.  I wasn't able to take photos because our relatives preyed on it the moment I put the fishes down (All  of it :-( ) Each one of them (my relatives) were asking how I prepared and cooked it which I gladly told them to check out our blog as all the recipes of those I have cooked and was cooked during our get-together will be posted.

So here goes :-) 



Tilapia, large - 5 pcs
Ginger, sliced into strips - 4 thumb size
Onions, sliced into rings - 3 large

Soy Sauce - 4 tbsp
Brown Sugar - 1 tbsp
Magi Magic Sarap 1 tsp
Ground Black pepper

Cooking Procedure:

1. Mix the ingredients for the sauce
2. Slice open the back of the tilapia.  Rub salt all over the fish - on its skin and it's cavities.  Let it stand for about 30 minutes
3. Stuff it with ginger and onions.
4.  Lay it out on a steaming plate (with no holes in it) or in a ceramic dish. Brush each side with the sauce.  Drizzle sauce inside the fish.
5.  Place water in a double boiler then steam the fish for at least 30 minutes or until the fish is cooked.

Serve and enjoy :-)
