Savory Sweet Bok Choy

My tummy had gone rogue over the weekend again.  It was too painful and I was constipated again (3 days of no poop- imagine that?)  Frederick was kind enough to cook bok choy for me and "forced" me to finish all of it.  Bok choy is a cruciferous vegetable.  Aside from its anti-cancer fighting properties it is also a good source of fiber - 100 g. of bok choi provides almost 1.5 g. of dietary fiber. I usually serve bok choi when we have red meat for the main course.  So while my husband is enjoying the pork tocino I made, I was munching on bok choi plus a dose of phsyllium husk.

Oh, I forgot to say that this dish tasted good - it has the perfect blend of saltiness and sweetness making it savory sweet.  My husband called it Chinese inspired bok choi because of the ingredients he used but I prefer to call it savory sweet bok choy to emphasize more on its taste.

Here's my husband's recipe and as usual, I can't provide you the measurement since my husband uses condiments, herbs, and spices based on how he wants his dish to taste :

Ingredients:

Bok Choi - 100 g. ++
Garlic, crushed and chopped - around 4 large cloves
Onion, diced - 1 large bulb
Char Siu Sauce
Salt & pepper to taste
Water – small amount only (less than ¼ cup)
Vegetable oil - 1 tsp

*Char siu by the way is a Chinese barbecue sauce that is usually used to marinade pork.

Cooking Procedure:

1. Heat oil in pan then sauté in it the garlic then the onions.
2.  Stir in the char siu sauce, salt, and pepper and let it simmer.  Adjust the amount of sauce and salt as need.
3.  Add in the bok choi and let it simmer until the vegetables begin to wilt.  Turn off fire.

Dish out.  If you have red meat as main course, we suggest you pair it with this J

Good for 2 servings . Here’s the estimated Nutritional values per serving based on the ingredients used.
